(For more on what's happening at Intermedia Arts, read the December 15 announcement.)
We asked, and you rallied. In just one week, you have shown us just how extraordinary our community can be!
Almost 100 people from 80 local organizations answered our call to action and attended SOTA: State of the Arts, a meeting designed to bring together small and mid-sized arts organizations to learn how we can work together to navigate this difficult economy.
Over 150 people filled our theater on four days’ notice in a mass show of support for Intermedia Arts at our Townhall Rally. We described our current situation, outlined our plan for the future, answered your questions and received incredible energy and ideas in return.
80 people have joined our campaign to raise money for Intermedia Arts using the power of 10: donating $10 themselves and asking 10 others to do the same.
Our email inboxes have been flooded with support—more than 200 of you have written to let us know that Intermedia Arts matters to you, and we are still wading through your voicemails!
We’ve received more than 45 offers to donate time, talent and energy to the work and future of Intermedia Arts—in addition to the 22 people who helped to make the Townhall Rally and SOTA events such a success!
You’ve put your money where your hearts are—our campaign has just begun, and we’ve already received $4600 in individual donations, and dozens of commitments to donate by the end of this month!
This is grassroots community activism in action: It’s a Townhall rally with pancakes and beer. It’s a community discussion kicked off with beat boxing and rap. It’s creative leadership and collaboration. It’s our commitment to art, dialogue, and social change. Thank you for showing us that Intermedia Arts matters to you. The campaign has just begun—join us now!
Intermedia Arts has an opportunity to become stronger and more sustainable than ever before. We have a plan for our future, but we need your support in order to make that future a reality. Show your support for Intermedia Arts: take action now!
This is what we need you to do:
1. Join our campaign. Intermedia Arts is more than a building; we are a community. This is the power of true grassroots community action: it’s reaching out, finding support, one person at a time. It’s organizing from the ground up, one person, one dollar at a time. We want you to join our campaign: ask 10 people to donate $10 by January 15th, 2009. It’s that simple.
2. Make a donation. Supporting Intermedia Arts is critical right now, and every dollar counts. We need your support to help us with our general operating expenses as we implement our plan for long-term sustainability. This isn’t about keeping Intermedia Arts open for another month; this is about keeping Intermedia Arts in our community for the long-term. Right now, that future depends on you. We need you to make a donation today.
3. Stay connected. At Intermedia Arts, we work from the community up. Send us your questions, tell us your thoughts, and continue to look to our website for updates, responses, community FAQs and news each and every step of the way. You have a voice in this. Use it.
4. Rent our space for your next performance, event, meeting or exhibition. Our building is a valuable asset to the arts community and we want it to continue to stay active and alive.
Our response to this urgent situation is an opportunity for us to create real social change in our community we can become a model for creating sustainability in the way small arts organizations operate. Together, we will meet this challenge and lead our community forward. Because Intermedia Arts matters. Because your voice matters. Because Intermedia Arts is YOU.
